From 13th to 15th April, 2018, the Century Flower Pavilion Lake Grand Hotel in Taihu County observed the grand opening of the 5th Session Middle School Students’ Model United Nations Conference, which was sponsored by the Municipal Education& Sports Bureau, the Communist Youth League Committee in Anqing City and presented by Taihu Middle School. Under the guidance of teacher Jin Gensheng with the Youth League Committee and advisor Fang Tao, ten students from Anqing Foreign Language School’s Model UN Club attended the conference.
To begin with, the theme of this convention was ‘Yearn for Peace while on the way to Become Prosperous’. The conference was divided into five sub-sessions, including the Third General Assembly of the United Nations(GA3), the House of Commons(HOC), the United Nations Development Program, the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child(CRC) as well as the Main Press Center(MPC).
To be specific, before the grand event, Anqing Foreign Language School’s Model UN Club proceeded a great many school training sessions and meticulously organized the preparation work. Student Xia Chengxi from the 11th grade study-abroad class, proprieter of Anqing Foreign Language School’s Model UN Club, was a member of the presidium with the parallel session of the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child(CRC). At the conference, delegates from Anqing Foreign Language School exchanged with the elites from other schools’ Model UN Clubs in Anqing City, which gave full play to their talents and demonstrated the favorable mental outlook of Anqing Foreign Language School’s students. Their amazing diplomatic presence and thorough understanding of problems won high praise from the presidium and the representatives present. More noticeably, student Cai Haiyue from the 11th grade study-abroad class won the ‘Best Personal Representative’ prize in the parallel session of the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child(CRC). In the meantime, in the House of Commons sub-session, student Bai Longhui was awarded the Official Medal based on his fabulous performance and obtained the honorary title of the ‘Best Personal Representative’.
Overall, by means of this convention, representatives from Anqing Foreign Language School not only elevated their academic level and comprehensive quality in all aspects, but also broadened their horizons and fully displayed Anqing Foreign Language School’s concept of internationalization.
